Winter spiced apple porridge

Breakfast today was this quick and easy winter spiced apple porridge. There is something very comforting about porridge and in cold crispy bright mornings we really enjoy having porridge for breakfast. This particular winter spiced apple porridge is easy, the spices we use are always available in our cupboard and we all like it, including the kids. There is nothing really special about it, apart from the fact that most porridges use banana or berries and we use grated apples from the allotment. We also use plant based milk to cook the porridge instead of water, which makes the result even creamier.

We start by heating up some plant milk (we use Oatly) and then we add organic porridge oats and stir at very low heat until the oats are soft. Add more milk through the cooking if your oats are not soft enough. You want to end up with a very creamy porridge. Towards the end of the cookies we add a pinch of cinnamon, pinch of vanilla powder and a touch of nutmeg and cloves.

We then process a couple of apples (we leave the skins on) into small pieces or add about 1/2 the amount of grated apples into the pan. Serve the breakfast bowls with your delicious & steaming winter spiced apple porridge and top with more processed apples, maple or rice syrup and a touch more cinnamon to taste.

Add a flat white and you have the perfect breakfast for any day of the week.
