Living Plant Walls- are they good for a private garden?

A couple of days ago, I passed by this wonderful wall close to Paddington Station and spotted this beautiful living wall. That little stretch on the side of the Canal is full of street art and inspiring views and architecture. I love walking by the Canal, checking out the little boats (one of which is actually home to a dear friend of mine!), seeing the swans swim by and people strolling around enjoying the walk. It always feels like a little break from the city.

Now that our house is undergoing renovations, I am gathering ideas on how to convert our secluded London garden into an oasis of peace and nature. I am thinking of tropical looking plants with huge leaves and, perhaps, a living wall? I have been doing some research and there are a few companies that will design and install these here in the city, but also I found these wonderful felt pockets that you can, pretty much, install yourself and create cool designs on your house or garden walls.

My only concern about designing a tropical garden in London, is the amount of work that we would probably need to put into to keeping looking as wonderful long term as I am sure it will initially. I think in top of our allotment it might be a but too much for me and the kids to keep. But we do love spending time outdoors and the garden is a focal point for the hosue and the study in the garden, where we spend most of our time at home.

Decision times coming up! If anyone has any experience with living walls, their upkeep and installation please do get in touch- would love to hear ideas 🙂
